Visual inspection and magnetometer survey by handheld metal detection was employed to assess the archaeological potential of the seabed, the intertidal zone and foreshore surrounding the proposed Ballyvaghan sewage outfall scheme. Detailed descriptions were made of seabed topography, bottom composition and where possible metal-detection hits were examined. The assessment extended 40m north and 40m south of the proposed impact centre-line. The intertidal zone was field-walked at low water. No archaeologically significant features were identified. Assessment was undertaken on 16 July 2004.
