The site of the proposed development is located to the rear of a business at 78 Main Street in the centre of Cavan town. The proposed development is to consist of a small extension to the building measuring 10m by4m. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Cavan. A single trench measuring 10m by 1m was excavated across the site of the proposed development in January 2004. It was excavated to a depth of 1.1–1.2m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the course of the excavation.
