An assessment of a site on the outskirts of Butlersbridge was requested prior to granting of planning permission to construct four houses. The site lies at the base of the west-facing slope of a drumlin; there is a ringfort (SMR 15:56) at the top of the drumlin, located in Kilnaglare Upper townland.
Seventeen trenches tested the house sites. The sod and topsoil layer was relatively thin, becoming deeper towards the bottom of the slope (i.e. the western end of the trenches). The underlying subsoil comprised mixed glacial deposits of brown and orange clays and of grey gravels interspersed with layers of finer grey clay. A rock outcrop was exposed in Trench 1.
Archaeological material was not exposed in any of the test-trenches.
