An archaeological impact assessment was undertaken in association with the proposed service land initiative extension to Kernanstown sewerage scheme in County Carlow. It involved the inspection of a 50m section of the river and its immediate riparian environs. The riverbed consists of small stones overlain by a layer of gravel and only a small amount of vegetation. Metal detection hits were few and mostly comprised modern cans. No evidence of masonry structures was identified in the riverbed. The northern riverbank is strewn with metal debris. An examination of an exposed section of the bank revealed a sandy alluvial deposit. No archaeological features or artefacts were noted at the proposed construction site, either in the river or on its associated riparian environs.
