Archaeological works were carried out in July 2004 in relation to the construction of apartments on a site occupied by derelict vernacular stone buildings and associated sheds to the rear, at Station Road, Kells. Before the development could proceed, it was recommended that test-trenching be implemented in order to ascertain a date for the standing stone buildings on the site, and also any archaeological deposits that might underlie them. Testing uncovered deposits relating to the buildings, which produced evidence of 19th/20th-century activity. No evidence of activity pre-dating the 19th/20th century was recovered to indicate an earlier date for the structures.
