This site was exposed during monitoring of topsoil-stripping prior to the construction of a dual carriageway between the R671 and Greystones. The road is part of a larger residential and industrial development planned for the area. Monitoring commenced in December 2002. To date, fourteen sites have been excavated. Excavation of Site J took place in November 2003.
Topsoil-stripping exposed a semicircular ditch, to the west of which were a number of pits, post-holes and slot-trenches. The ditch measured 68m in length and ran in a north-south direction through the site. It curved from the south-east very gradually to the north-east. A recut of the ditch was evident in section, which ran the entire length of the ditch.
Two slot-trench features were located c. 4m to the north-east of the ditch, but they did not appear to be associated with any structural remains. A barbed and tanged arrowhead and several crumbs of prehistoric pottery were found in these features.
A number of post-holes and pits were excavated to the west of the ditch. One fragment of prehistoric pottery was retrieved from a pit.
