Monitoring of groundworks associated with an extension to the rear of a terraced dwelling-house was undertaken on various dates during August 2003. The site is situated c. 50m north-east of the medieval parish church of St Bridget's.
The groundworks consisted of the overall reduction of ground level in the back garden of the property and the excavation of a series of foundation trenches for the new extension.
The reduction of ground level in the garden area required the excavation of 0.3-1m of material throughout most of the back garden. The stratigraphy uncovered consisted of 0.8m of garden soils which contained rubble, glass and modern ceramics. The garden soils overlay a compact orange sandy clay subsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
