Monitoring of groundworks associated with an extension to the rear of a terraced dwelling-house was undertaken on various dates during August 2003. The site is situated c. 50m north-east of the medieval parish church of St Bridget's.
The groundworks consisted of the overall reduction of ground level in the back garden of the property and the excavation of a series of foundation trenches for the new extension.
The reduction of ground level in the garden area required the excavation of 0.3–1m of material throughout most of the back garden. The stratigraphy uncovered consisted of 0.8m of garden soils which contained rubble, glass and modern ceramics. The garden soils overlay a compact orange sandy clay subsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
