On behalf of 02, monitoring of topsoil-stripping took place at a proposed GSM site in the townland of Mylestown, north of Kilucan village, in fields of pasture. The site lies 250m west of Knocksheebane, a raised rath. Two ringforts, SMR 20:97 and 20:96, are located 150m and 300m, respectively, to the south of the proposed development, within the landownership boundary.
The works involved the preparation of the compound area and access track. An existing access track is located on the northern section of the site. The proposed 3m-wide track runs at right angles to the existing track and is located adjacent to the western side of a field boundary. It ran for a length of 330m before turning west for a length of 170m before entering the compound.
This area was stripped over a period of five days using a machine with a flat bucket (2m in width). Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
