Testing took place along the proposed route of the N4 road improvements. The trench layout for this phase of testing was based on anomalies recorded during a geophysical survey by Earthsound Ltd. A total of eighteen locations under seventeen licences were tested, with between one and four trenches excavated in each. No archaeological features were noted during the testing. The geophysical anomalies were manifested as either land drains or plough furrows and in some cases variations in the natural subsoil.
