Testing was carried out at a single house development adjacent to a house recorded in the Down Survey in 1657 (SMR 32:107) at Loughanlewnaght, Tyrellspass, Co. Westmeath. A series of trenches were excavated by mechanical digger at the house site, entrance and percolation area. An area of burning was located in the west-facing section of the trench for the entrance. This was located at 0.65m below ground level and measured 0.47m in width and 4mm in depth. This will not be affected by the development, as the driveway will be excavated to a maximum depth of 0.3m, leaving a substantial buffer. No other features or finds of archaeological significance were revealed.
