Testing was carried out at Delvin, Co. Westmeath, on 8 September 2003. The proposed development entails the construction of a housing development fronting onto the main Kells to Mullingar Road (N52) on a parcel of land measuring c. 300m north-east/south-west by c. 120–200m. Unmonitored topsoil-stripping had taken place on-site during the week of 21–25 July. No groundworks were carried out in the area of land where the proposed row of dwellings adjoin St Mary's churchyard. The proposed development extends northwards as far as the southern wall of the graveyard.
One linear trench parallel to the boundary with the graveyard was excavated and five trenches were excavated off the primary trench to the south. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
