Monitoring of foundation excavations was undertaken in February 2003. The development concerns an extension to a shop in Connaught Street, Athlone. Two foundation trenches were excavated. The stratigraphy encountered in both trenches was similar and consisted of fill material (stones, gravel and brick) overlying a natural brown daub. Nothing of archaeological significance was encountered.
