Pre-development testing was required in advance of the construction of two sheds, stables and a silage storage facility at Adamstown, Castletown-Geoghegan, Co. Westmeath. The site was within a farmyard and lay within the protected area of the site of Adamstown Castle. No visible remains of the castle were evident on the ground.
Four machine-cut test-trenches were excavated. Testing revealed that the farmyard had been subjected to extensive reclamation in recent years. The entire area had been deliberately raised and levelled in the last twenty years with large quantities of gravel and modern debris. No finds or features of archaeological significance were uncovered.
