Groundworks for the construction of a mixed-use development at the corner of Thomas Street and Anne Street were monitored. The site lies outside the medieval walled town in an area that was developed from the early/mid-18th century onwards. A short section of wall, 3.7m long and 0.86m high, was uncovered running parallel to the adjoining building on Thomas Street. This sat on a floor of locally made poor-quality brick. The lower part of the foundation of the adjoining building, where it faced this wall, was better built than the remainder of the foundation. This suggests that the feature is part of a cellar, possibly for coal, for the house on Thomas Street, which was built after 1832.
