Monitoring was carried out on the groundworks for a proposed business park in the townland of Skibbereen c. 2.5km south-west of Waterford city centre. During the course of monitoring, three irregularly shaped pits and one spread were uncovered in the east of the proposed area of development.
Of the four features excavated, only Pit 1 produced datable archaeological artefacts. The pottery sherds (Bronze Age vase food vessel) recovered from the upper levels of this feature may constitute an example of a funerary vessel, associated with the development of new burial customs and ceramic types during the Early Bronze Age period. Environmental analysis of the deposits revealed a quantity of charred nutshell and charcoal.
