The client is constructing 33 two-storey dwellings, including all associated site development works, on a site at the junction of Upper Queen Street and Brown Street, Portlaw, Co. Waterford. Monitoring took place on 18–19 March 2003. Nothing of archaeological interest was encountered during topsoil removal. However, it is interesting to point out that the post-medieval pottery assemblage recovered from the site is extensive and possibly indicative of the density of the population of the area during the 19th and 20th centuries. The diversity of the assemblage also indicates the level of wealth in the town during this period.
