The site at Killoteran 2 was discovered during centre-line trenching and was initially recorded as a patch of oxidised clay and a number of nearby pits. There was no surface indication of any archaeological remains in the immediate area and the surrounding land had been under pasture. An area measuring 10m by 50m was mechanically excavated around the features. Subsequent investigations revealed the features to be of no archaeological significance.
