As part of the pre-development assessment of the Waterford Outer Ring Road, a series of trenches was excavated within the proposed land-take of the route. Area 3 was highlighted in the environmental impact statement as an area of higher potential, as it was near a mill complex, a pre-first-edition OS map bridge and a topographical anomaly. No significant archaeological features, deposits or objects were identified.
