Phase 2 excavation at Site 25a was carried out on behalf of South Tipperary County Council in advance of construction of the N8 Cashel Bypass and N74 Link Road. The scheme involves a 6km bypass route of the town and a 2km link road of the N74. Site 25a was located between Chainages 4260 and 4320 and was 60m wide on average. A series of trenches were excavated across the whole site. A single continuous trench was excavated along the centre-line of the proposed route. Offset trenches were also excavated at 90ยบ from the centre-line trench out to the extents of the CPO. These trenches were placed 20m apart and were staggered on either side.
A total of seventeen trenches were excavated and nine features were uncovered, all of which were identified as modern agricultural activity. These features took the form of modern furrows or field clearance.
