A licence was issued to undertake monitoring of the main drainage and sewerage scheme. It was carried out between 8 July 2002 and 25 August 2003 within the urban zone of the town as well as its hinterland. Trench excavations varied between 1.8 and 4m in width and achieved depths of 0.6–4.5m. In the course of the works, the remains of a post-medieval culverted stream and a possible medieval hammerstone were found. A possible hearth site was also excavated (Excavations 2002, No. 1741, 02E1204).
