Pre-construction testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed apartment block at Wolfe Tone Street, Sligo. The development site is just to the west of the zone of archaeological potential for the town. Three trenches were opened on the site to the rear of an existing building fronting Wolfe Tone Street. Nothing was found in any of the trenches that could in any way be associated with medieval or post-medieval Sligo. A rich, dark topsoil appeared to reflect dumping of the usual household waste and in particular clinker, coal and charcoal. The only feature of note was the presence of dumped building debris and lime mortar in one of the trenches. It was of relatively recent origin, as testified by a modern metal tie within the fill.
