The proposed development, to consist of a new office unit on the site of an early 19th-century building that was recently demolished, is located at No. 8 Old Market Street, Sligo. Monitoring of excavation works was carried out on 16 and 19 May 2003. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for medieval Sligo. All excavation work was carried out by machine. Under the demolished building, a substantial layer of overburden consisting of rubble, clay and red brick rested on a light-grey/brown natural clay. No archaeological features or finds were revealed during the course of the excavation.
