The site is located to the south of Summerhill Social Services Building, Circular Road, Sligo, in the townland of Caltragh. It is bounded to the west, south and east by green fields, and to the north by the social services building. It is proposed that the site be developed into a temporary carpark to provide spaces for 165 cars, and associated site works, drainage, lighting, etc. The site is currently improved ground. The proposed development is located some 200m to the east of an enclosure, SMR 14:125.
Four test-trenches were mechanically excavated across the proposed development area. A number of linear features were uncovered. Those that ran north-south at regular intervals are thought to be the remains of cultivation furrows, while the larger linear feature running north-west/south-east across the site probably represents a late drainage ditch or field boundary. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
