Testing took place in advance of the construction of a mixed residential/commercial development on the site which overlooked the Garvogue River, on Holborn Street in Sligo town. The northern boundary of the site was believed to coincide with the line of the 17th-century town defences, which ran west along the ridge of Green Fort hill. All topsoil-stripping and ground preparation works were monitored, with particular attention paid to the strip of ground running parallel to the northern boundary of the site. However, nothing of archaeological interest survived within the development area.
