Five trial-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed development beside the estimated line of the southern portion of the medieval wall of Sligo. Four of the trenches did not contain material of archaeological interest and one, located at the front of the site parallel to Cathedral View/The Lungy, contained the remains of a red-brick feature, indicating the survival of a portion, at least, of an earlier building on the site. The feature appears to be a pathway, floored with brick and enclosed by brick walls. It has not been possible to date the remains through either cartographic evidence or historical sources, though their form suggests a date range between late 18th and early 19th century.
