The proposed development, to consist of 36 houses, services and roads, is located outside of Coolaney, Co. Sligo. A ringfort is in excess of 100m from the proposed development site. Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was carried out in August 2003. The sod and topsoil varied in depth from 0.25 to 0.4m. In all places, undisturbed natural was revealed. Some early modern crockery, bottle glass and clay-pipe stems were retrieved, but no evidence of earlier activity was apparent. No archaeological features or finds were revealed during the course of the excavation.
