Monitoring took place at the proposed development site over ten days between 9 September and 2 October 2003. The site contains two monuments, both of which are incorporated into green areas associated with the proposed development. They were fenced off, leaving a 20m buffer around them.
The southern portion of the site bounded by the road was previously disturbed and building rubble had been introduced. Very little undisturbed ground remained.
The soil stratigraphy across the northern half of the site was relatively uniform and consisted of a thin layer of sod overlying a brown silty clay topsoil, which overlay a thin layer of tan/light-brown silty clay. The underlying shattered bedrock is undulating across the site and appears at a depth of between 0.25 and 0.5m. Nothing of any archaeological significance was noted across the entire stripped area. A number of red-brick fragments and some modern ceramic pottery sherds were the only finds recovered.
