The proposed development, to consist of a house, access and septic tank/percolation area, is located a few miles outside of Aclare, Co. Sligo. Monitoring of excavation works was carried out in March 2003. There is a well-preserved ringfort in the north-west corner of the field; its recommended 30m buffer zone is respected by all aspects of the proposed development. All excavation work was carried out by machine. The topsoil consisted of a rich brown clay with small stones and some modern crockery. It ranged between 0.15 and 0.2m deep. This layer rested on a compact grey/brown natural clay with decayed stone. No archaeological features or finds were revealed during the course of the excavation.
