Pre-development testing took place at the site of an extension to a graveyard (SMR 6:8) in Keeloges, Ballintrillick, Co. Sligo, on 13 and 14 August 2003.
Testing consisted of the excavation (by machine) of five trenches, which measured 12.8m, 40.6m, 40m, 39.8m and 30m long, respectively, 0.9-1.4m wide and 0.45-1.2m deep. The stratigraphy consisted of topsoil above grey/brown friable silt loam, orange/grey/brown firm silty clay loam, grey/brown friable sandy silt loam and grey/brown loose loamy sand with frequent rocks. One modern pottery sherd and a fragment of modern glass were recovered from the topsoil. The evidence from all five trenches was of undisturbed natural stratigraphy.
