Pre-development testing took place at the site of an extension to a graveyard (SMR 6:8) in Keeloges, Ballintrillick, Co. Sligo, on 13 and 14 August 2003.
Testing consisted of the excavation (by machine) of five trenches, which measured 12.8m, 40.6m, 40m, 39.8m and 30m long, respectively, 0.9–1.4m wide and 0.45–1.2m deep. The stratigraphy consisted of topsoil above grey/brown friable silt loam, orange/grey/brown firm silty clay loam, grey/brown friable sandy silt loam and grey/brown loose loamy sand with frequent rocks. One modern pottery sherd and a fragment of modern glass were recovered from the topsoil. The evidence from all five trenches was of undisturbed natural stratigraphy.
