Monitoring took place over four days, from 2 September 2003, at a development site in Cornageeha, Co. Sligo. The 22-acre site is just to the south of Sligo town. Phase 1 of the development was confined to the northern end of the site.
The topsoil across the stripped area was brown to light-brown dry sandy clay, which ranged in depth from 0.2 to 0.4m. There were occasional spreads of small stones at the interface between the topsoil and the underlying subsoil. The topsoil also contained some modern ceramics, black earthenware, clay-pipe stems and modern iron fragments. The subsoil was a red/brown to orange sandy clay with occasional small to medium stones. Towards the eastern end of the stripped area, a band of stone ran approximately north-south. The stone, which appeared to be the upper, shattered, layer of bedrock, lay just below a thin layer of sod and topsoil.
Monitoring did not reveal any features or finds of an archaeological nature.
