This site was situated within the proposed route of the N4 Sligo Inner Relief Road and County Extension. It was located in undulating pastureland, c. 2.5km south-west of Sligo town centre and south of the Newtownholmes Road, and was near a number of archaeological sites located along the proposed route. Test excavations within this area, carried out in 2001 by Frank Ryan (Excavations 2001, No. 1176, 01E0942), revealed pits with in situ burning. Topsoil-stripping of this site, which measured c. 2.2ha, revealed a number of post-medieval field drains, a large post-medieval field clearance pit filled with stone as well as a single shallow pit containing a dark rich soil which did not contain any diagnostic material.
