As part of the resolution of archaeology along the route of the proposed Sligo Inner Relief Road, two small areas of archaeological significance were excavated. Area 1 comprised five pits and two small deposits. Two of the pits had been cut by a modern land drain, which was oriented north-east/south-west. Cremated bone was found in two of the pits. Three pits and one of the deposits contained flint flakes. In addition, prehistoric pottery was found in two of the pits.

Area 2 to the south-west comprised a total of seven pits, two of which had been damaged by previous testing of the area. The average dimensions of the pits were 0.65m in diameter and 0.15–0.36m in depth. Three contained cremated bone, several chert scrapers, worked and waste chert and flint pieces. Three water-rolled pebbles were also found and one pit contained possible prehistoric pottery.

This project was funded by the Irish government under the National Development Plan 2000–2006.
