On the top of a broad ridge where it was proposed to erect a dwelling-house at Cabragh, Geevagh, all groundworks were monitored. On all earlier OS maps, an oval enclosure had been shown within 10m of the proposed house, though this appeared to have been dug away in the recent past. Beneath the sod, the topsoil consisted of a dark-brown stony clay, 0.48m thick at most. Where the topsoil was shallowest, it sat on a darker, more stony, brown clay. A small amount of loose animal bone of no archaeological interest came from these clay layers. Beneath the clay a grey gravelly shale appeared to form the boulder clay and this was cut into by as much as 1.4m.
