The site is broadly L-shaped and encompasses seven fields. It is bounded on the east by the River Shannon, on the north by the N5, Main Street, and to the west and south by rough pasture. The site is generally level and lies at c. 40m OD. Fourteen trenches were mechanically excavated. Natural subsoil was encountered at 0.4m below the ground level. A single feature, the remains of a stone wall, was identified. This feature corresponds with a field boundary, evident on the 1890 OS map. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified during the course of testing.
