Monitoring was undertaken as part of a road-widening scheme along the N5, between the villages of Tulsk and Strokestown. It involved the removal of a grass verge and the excavation of a strip of land 0.5km in length in the townland of Lissaphuca. The excavation of the grass verges revealed that they had previously been disturbed in the course of road construction. At Lissaphuca, the sod was underlain by a peat layer. At the east of the site, the peat was underlain by a cream-coloured marl and by a grey sticky clay in the west. No features of archaeological interest were identified.
