The site of the proposed development, to consist of a single house, access, septic tank and percolation area, is located outside Rathcroghan, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon. A denuded ringfort, part of the larger Rathcroghan complex, is located 20m south-west of the site boundary. An assessment of the site, including testing, was carried out on 15 December 2003. Four trenches were excavated across the site. All measured 10m by 1m and were excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.45m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the course of the excavation.
