Testing was carried out on a proposed development site at Killiaghan and Gort, Co. Roscommon, on 6 March 2003. The development comprises a dwelling-house, septic tank and two mushroom tunnels. The greenfield site is in the immediate vicinity of an enclosure. The south-west half of the monument is situated on the high ground in the north corner of the site. Five trenches, averaging 30m in length, were excavated on the footprint of the proposed development. The stratigraphy was uniform across the tested area, a grey/brown silt topsoil, depth 0.2m, overlying orange/brown silty sand subsoil and, on the higher ground, outcrops of grey coarse sand, gravel and cobbles. No archaeological material was discovered during testing.
