A development of 47 houses to the east of Roscommon town had fifteen test-trenches cut in advance of any works. The large field was outside of the town limits but within 100m of an old avenue reputedly connected with Roscommon Castle. No archaeology was found in any of the trenches, apart from part of a fulacht fiadh (No. 1566, Excavations 2003, 03E1168) in one trench situated on low ground to the south.
