The proposed development at Carrowbane, to consist of sixteen houses, accesses and related services, is located just outside the village of Frenchpark. Monitoring of excavation works was carried out on 18 October 2003. Only the area concerning the main access and first five houses (an area measuring roughly 130m by 50m, the western portion of the site) was stripped at this time. The topsoil consisted of a light- to dark-brown clay with small stones. It ranged between 0.15 and 0.25m deep, being deeper to the south. This layer rested on natural subsoil, consisting of a compact grey/yellow clay. There was no evidence of any archaeological activity on the site.
