Pre-development testing was carried out at Main Street, Shinrone, Co. Offaly. The proposed development of eleven semi-detached houses lies within the curtilage of a protected structure including the site of a castle. Parts of the bawn wall of the castle survive in the southern boundary wall of the walled garden that forms part of the development site.

Seven trenches were mechanically opened. Potential archaeological features were uncovered within Trenches 4 and 5 (within the walled garden), including dressed stone that was included in levelling fills in the garden.
