Following a survey by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (IAWU) in 2002 of Cloncreen Bog, a Bord na Móna production bog, a number sites were selected for excavation in the summer of 2003. These sites were identified as a tertiary togher incorporating a hurdle panel orientated north-east/south-west and a tertiary togher orientated north-east/south-west. A single cutting was excavated for each of these sites.

The first tertiary togher was found to be a badly damaged hurdle panel lying on top of a second damaged hurdle panel. This site was isolated but may be related to the other tertiary togher excavated under this licence.

The second togher was found to be composed of brushwood, roundwoods and twig beds. The majority of the elements ran in a north-west direction. This site was traced a further 18m to the south-west.
