Following a survey by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (IAWU) in 2002 of Cloncreen Bog, a Bord na Móna production bog, a number sites were selected for excavation in the summer of 2003. These sites were identified as worked wood in situ and a hurdle panel dated to 1409–1054 cal. BC. A single 5m by 5m cutting was excavated to encompass both sites.
The sites were found to be a hurdle panel with an intact withe and associated elements. There was a concentration of brushwood and twigs to the west of the hurdle and some east-west-oriented pieces of brushwood beyond the hurdle panel's northern end. This site appears to be isolated, as attempts to trace it both north and south were unsuccessful; it may be related to other sites excavated in this bog (No. 1510, Excavations 2003, 03E0869).
