Testing and subsequent monitoring were undertaken during roadworks at Swanns's Cross, Co. Monaghan. The works consisted of the realignment of c. 700m of the Monaghan to Cootehill road (R188) at the junction of Swann's Cross, five miles west of Monaghan town. The route was initially investigated using centre-line herringbone testing and nothing of archaeological importance was encountered. The subsequent removal of topsoil along the road-take was also monitored and no archaeological features or artefacts were uncovered during this process.
