A 4000m2 monitoring brief funded by Monaghan County Council and the National Roads Authority took place in the townland of Monanny, c. 1km to the north of Carrickmacross, in advance of the construction of the 8.137km N2 Carrickmacross-Aclint Road Realignment (main Chainage 9863-18320).

Topsoil-stripping was initiated in this area, due to its proximity to a ringfort (SMR 31:13) and to the adjacent Neolithic site of Monanny 1 (No. 1503 above, 03E0888). Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
