Two 19th-century buildings were demolished on this site. Six trenches were then excavated. These produced evidence for dumping of stone in the north-east corner of the site. This was probably due to the presence of a natural hollow here which had filled up with an accumulation of soft silty material. There was also evidence for substantial dumping of stone underneath the boundary wall along the east side of the site. This appeared to have taken place in the post-medieval period. Further monitoring will take place in 2004.
