Monitoring of topsoil removal in advance of a residential development was carried out immediately south-east of Navan Motte. The site had been occupied by two small cottages and a number of outbuildings and sheds. The buildings, hedges and trees were removed under supervision prior to ground reduction. Topsoil deposits (light-brown sandy clay), c. 1.3–1.6m in depth, were encountered across the site, through which were sporadic dumps of modern rubbish material. Subsoil within the site was compact gravelly clay. No archaeological finds or features were encountered. The site had been the subject of an assessment by Malachy Conway in 1999 (Excavations 1999, No. 702, 99E0653).
