A building survey indicated that the street-front buildings on the site were of no architectural or historical interest. Three trenches were mechanically excavated in the back yards of the site on 4 March 2003 and a further two on 8 April, when the street-front buildings had been demolished. The remains of two narrow ditches and a small pit, each filled with organic material and silt, were the only features uncovered. No finds were uncovered. The proposed development will not interfere with these features.
