Monitoring was carried out on behalf of Irish Cement Ltd at the Platin Quarry in north-east Meath. Two significant sites where identified: a rural medieval settlement and a large fulacht fiadh.
The medieval settlement (No. 1378, Excavations 2003, 03E0264) comprised two structures associated with waste pits and ditches in the south of Cruicerath; the fulacht fiadh (No. 138, Excavations 2003, 03E0465) comprised a large mound bisected by the townland boundary between Cruicerath and Carranstown.
Prehistoric waste flint, scrapers and possible blades, along with sherds of medieval, post-medieval and modern ceramic, were recovered from unstratified contexts.
