Testing was undertaken at Main Street, Townparks, Athboy, Co. Meath. The proposed development is within SMR 29:9, Athboy town. The developer was extending onto the rear of a street-front house. One trench was excavated at the south-eastern portion of the site where the proposed extension is to be built. It ran for a distance of 5m north-east/south-west by 1m and was excavated to a depth of 1.5m. The upper 0.6m comprised dark-brown silty topsoil which had been laid down quite recently as garden soil. Underneath this was 0.2m of light-brown clay. There were small flecks of charcoal present in this layer and some modern ceramics and an animal bone. This layer lay on the natural, which was yellow/brown boulder clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the testing.
